On March 9, 1999 RCA/BMG released Elvis - The Home Recordings, as a gift to the true fans and collectors. Soundwise the contents are of a quality that will not attract the spoiled ears of the mass market. These recordings were made with private tape recorders and never intended to be heard by anyone outside of the Presley entourage. Let alone being released on a CD worldwide ! The CD contains 22 songs, including 15 previously unreleased performances.

Since the raids only very little has been released by the bootleggers. And to tell you what: I think it was good for “the market”, because there were times that so many was released that it was practically impossible to keep up with it all. In a way it ruined my enthousiasm to purchase them. They cost a lot of money and there was so little time to “enjoy” them, because in the meantime another one would have surfaced on the market also asking for attention.

Because I did the review of The Home Recordings CD in EU #3, Arjan thought it would be a proper idea when I would also do the next ‘home-recorded’ CD of Elvis. Whereas I was enthousiastic about THE HOME RECORDINGS CD, I have some ambivalent feelings about IN A PRIVATE MOMENT, the third release on the Follow That Dream-label. It is clear that this is for a great deal the remainder of songs that didn’t have the quality to appear on the major releases PLATINUM and/or THE HOME RECORDINGS.

Promotion has always been a key-element in getting the attention of the public. In the case of Elvis it started with Sam Phillips who personally handed out free singles to the radio stations. In the years to come the commercial circus of Tom Parker would take over in a professional manner.

July 1st 2000 was the date when Long Lonely Highway was being released on the Follow That Dream-records label. It is the fifth volume already on BMG’s Collectors Label, and it spans the period from 1960 to 1968.
All the songs - 23 in total - are presented here in chronological order. Only two songs have been previously released. The first one is A Mess Of Blues (take 1) which can be found on Platinum. The second one (It’s A) Long Lonely Highway was accidently released as the B-side of the I’m Yours single (47-8657). But how many of us have this single in their collection ? Not many I guess, so I welcome it warmly.

It is due to the kind co-operation of Joe Guercio that the sixth release on the Follow That Dream label is a live concert from June 1st, 1976 at the Community Center Arena, Tuscon, Arizona. The people in Elvis’ band and back-up singers were known, but the musicians in The Joe Guercio Orchestra were not documented. Fortunately Joe was able to track them down. Now the royalties could be paid and nothing stood in the way of the release of this soundboard recording.

In my research for information I had to fall back on a lengthy article in a fellow-magazine Elvis - The Man And His Music, issue 16 (sept.1992), by Gordon Minto called Too Much Monkey Business (isn’t that coincidental or what?). Sinds vandaag heb ik zo’n 1000 Elvis Disco flyers in mijn bezit!
De bedoeling is echter dat alle 1000 hun weg vinden naar de fans. Zelf heb ik daarin een actieve rol door ze te verspreiden op Elvis-meetings, rock and roll feesten en beurzen. Daarnaast verras ik de binnenstad van Amsterdam ongeveer drie weken voor aanvang nog met een bezoek om winkels en café’s te bevoorraden met de allerlaatste exemplaren.

Wil jij - net als ik - dat de ElvisDisco weer een gezellige samenkomst van gelijkgestemden wordt. En wil je daarin een klein steentje bijdragen door ook wat flyers aan vrienden en bekenden uit te delen? How difficult is it for a contributor to Elvis Unlimited to review an EU-production and not to loose its credibility? Well simply by being honest, I think! And that’s what I intend to do so with this cd that focuses on Elvis’ parents Gladys and Vernon Presley. The producers used a nice concept, but there is nothing really revealing. A lot of the content has already been released previously. Only this time it has been put in a chronological order. Still there are some pieces that show up for the first time.

Welkom op de ELVISDISCO website!

Op deze site vind je alle informatie aangaande de ELVISDISCO die plaatsvindt in Monnickendam als onderdeel van het Elvis In Monnickendam-weekend wat georganiseerd wordt van 22 t/m 25 april 2010.
De datum voor de ELVISDISCO staat gepland voor 23-04-2010 en zal plaatsvinden in Cultureel Centrum de Bolder. De deuren gaan open om 20:00 uur, en sluiten officieel om 02:00.
De entree is geheel GRATIS!!!

Viva Las Vegas

Voorafgaand aan de Elvisdisco is er de gelegenheid om alvast goed in de stemming te komen met de feel good movie “Viva Las Vegas”. Deze zal vertoond worden op een groot filmscherm!

dress-code,

De organisatie vraagt aan de bezoekers om mee te werken aan een fantastische avond door wat aandacht te besteden aan de out-fit. Voor deze dansavond die in de stijl van de Fifties, Sixties and Seventies zal staan wordt van u de “Rock And Roll” dress-code gevraagd!

De Bolder

In ‘De Bolder’ staat u een dansvloer ter beschikking waar 400 dansers uit de voeten kunnen. Daarnaast is er een grote en gezellige bar-ruimte aanwezig waar er tot 02:00 uur getapt mag worden…

Karaoke

‘De Bolder’ zorgt ervoor dat er een Karaoke-set aanwezig zal zijn tijdens de avond. Een mooie gelegenheid dus om “..de Elvis in je los te laten…”, en te laten zien dat de nummers van Elvis nog steeds springlevend zijn!

Met medewerking van…

Tijdens de avond zullen er stands aanwezig zijn. Op dit moment hebben we de toezegging van de lokale vinyl-winkel Labmusic die aanwezig zal zijn met een stand vinyl-platen. Daarnaast komt ook de Elvis Presley fanclub ‘Elvis-for-Everyone’ staan met een mooie stand met Elvis merchandise. Een mooie gelegenheid om je collectie weer eens aan te vullen, lijkt me zo…

Muziek!

De muziek is in veilige handen van de bekwame Elvis DJ Emiel Maier uit Utrecht. Hij heeft al 12 jaar ervaring en neemt naast het bekende werk ook de laatste remixen mee. Hij neemt óók verzoekjes aan, en neemt naast Elvis ook nog wat ander Rock And Roll werk mee.
Hij draait in ieder geval door tot 02:00.
